The first version of forklift was introduced during the First World War due to the shortage of manpower and the need for efficient handling of goods. These early models were rudimentary, equipped with a simple platform and winch mechanism.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;\">In the 1920s and 1930s, the forklift underwent significant improvements. Companies such as Clark and Yale &amp; Towne introduced models with raised masts and forks, which could reach higher and carry heavier loads. Eugene Clark of the Clark Material Handling Company in Kentucky is credited with developing the first lift truck with a counterweight and operator&#8217;s seat. Although today it is often referred to as the first forklift, it did not actually have forks. The forklift was called the &#8220;Tructractor&#8221;, however to this day forklifts are still referred to as Clark by many operators. They allow for efficient use of space and inventory management.<\/li>\n<li>Palletization: Forklift trucks are used to move and stack pallets, which are platforms used to store and transport goods. It has made handling and transporting goods more efficient, safe and cost-effective. Forklifts are equally sources of emissions, especially considering that they are the main loading and unloading tool. Add to this the time they spend operating in the warehouse for tasks involving the organisation and rearrangement of goods and it becomes clear that they are a significant source of carbon dioxide emissions and air pollution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The worst of the impact is on the health of the people in the warehouse as the pollutants are emitted into the enclosed area of the warehouse. Consequently all warehouse staff are condemned to breathe polluted air (!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Following on from our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint (CO2) and the well-being of our people we have invested in electrification and renewable energy. Since 1998, the fleet has consisted of electric forklifts and much of the energy they consume is generated by solar power.
